crust manufacturing from the wet blue

The process of converting wet blue into crust leather can be characterized as the perfect union between art and science.   In the retanning process, our technical staff applies their “artistic” touch learned through years of experience in working with various hide types and tanning methods and blends that with state-of-the-art chemistry and science to create leathers of the highest standard.

To this end, Carville National Leather utilizes a combination of retanning vessels from traditional wood drums fitted with the latest process control devices to the most modern computer operated stainless steel reactors.

The retanning process must be coupled to the proper drying and conditioning methods.  Both wet toggling and vacuum drying are the industry’s two most common drying methods, both of which are utilized by Carville National Leather.  Our clean, modern production facility is fully equipped with the latest and most efficient leather tanning machines. This coupled with our staff of highly trained and skilled leather craftsmen and women and our experienced and professional technical team, means we can meet and exceed any leather specification.

Whether it is crust manufacturing, reconditioning or leather finishing, the entire team at Carville National Leather is dedicated to achieving the highest quality standards for each of our customers.
